Dr. Nancy Solomon and Ms. Seema Virji to Co-Present at IAOM 2025

The International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM) is pleased to announce a compelling joint presentation at the 2025 IAOM Annual Convention by two distinguished voices in the field: Dr. Nancy Pearl Solomon, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, and Seema Virji, RDH, BScDH, COM®

Their session, titled Team Up with the IAOM to Build a Clinical Database,” is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 4:00–4:45 p.m. MST at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown

This session offers a unique opportunity for clinicians at all levels to participate in shaping the future of orofacial myofunctional therapy by designing a group research project. Attendees will engage in a structured brainstorming process aimed at developing a shared clinical database that can support the publication of group-authored studies in the International Journal of Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy

Dr. Nancy Solomon serves as Research Speech-Language Pathologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and holds an academic appointment at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and an adjunct appointment at the University of Maryland. Nancy is a Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is currently Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Orofacial Myology and Myofunctional Therapy. She has published over 100 articles on topics concerning respiratory, laryngeal, and articulatory function for speech, voice and swallowing. Her current research addresses the effectiveness of myofunctional therapy for obstructive sleep apnea in adults.

Seema Virji, RDH, BScDH, COM®, is a licensed dental hygienist and Certified Orofacial Myologist with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from the University of Alberta, where she also earned certifications in local anesthesia and dental hygiene prescribing. She founded one of Canada’s first independent myofunctional therapy clinics led by a dental hygienist, dedicated exclusively to treating orofacial myofunctional disorders. Seema is the fifth dental hygienist in Canada to earn IAOM certification and currently co-chairs the IAOM Mentoring Committee. She has published a case study in the Canadian Journal of Dental Hygiene and received the Meritorious Poster Award at the 2022 IAOM Convention.

This presentation will serve as a brainstorming and learning session with the goal of combining information from OMD clinical practices. Attendees will suggest questions of interest and discuss variables that are commonly collected. Our aim is to initiate a collaborative project that will lead to publication in the IAOM’s official journal.

Together, these speakers bring both clinical and academic expertise to foster collaboration among IAOM members who are interested in publication and professional advancement. The session is designed to be interactive and inclusive, inviting participants to contribute insights, propose variables, and co-develop meaningful research questions.

This is a must-attend session for clinicians passionate about evidence-based care and for those seeking to amplify their impact through scholarly work. Bring your ideas, your curiosity, and your voice. Let’s build the future of evidence-based myofunctional care together.
